Topic:

Protection of children in occupied territories in the Middle East

Description:

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works to protect children’s rights and provide essential services, including healthcare, education, and protection during humanitarian crises. Children in occupied territories in the Middle East face severe risks to their safety, development and basic rights. According to UNICEF, millions of children in the region are affected by armed conflicts, displacement, and instability. Many are exposed to violence, loss of family members and the destruction of schools, hospitals and basic services. In these conditions, children are more vulnerable to exploitation, including child labor, and child marriage, while access to education, healthcare, protection services and basic needs is limited or disrupted. The situation is even more complicated due to weak enforcement of international humanitarian law in these territories. As a result, protecting children in occupied territories becomes an urgent and global concern, requiring coordinated international action to ensure children’s safety, rights and long term well being
